Morton’s Neuroma

The foot is an evolutionary marvel, capable of handling hundreds of tons of force—your weight in motion—every day. The human foot has a myriad of 42 muscles, 26 bones, 33 joints, and at least 50 ligaments and tendons made of strong fibrous tissues to keep all the moving parts together...plus work in harmony to get you from one place to another. But the stress of carrying you around puts your feet at high risk of injury, more so than other parts of your body.

What is Morton’s Neuroma??

•A neuroma is a thickening of nerve tissue. The most common type is in the foot, named Morton’s Neuroma, also known as intermetatarsal neuroma and usually occurs between the third and fourth toes.

•The thickening, or enlargement, of the nerve that defines a neuroma is the result of compression and irritation of the nerve. This compression creates enlargement of the nerve, eventually leading to permanent nerve damage.

Morton’s Neuroma symptoms:

  • Tingling, burning, or numbness
  • Pain in the ball of foot
  • Feeling of something inside the ball of the foot
  • A feelings of something inside the shoe or sock

Morton’s Neuroma causes:

Morton’s Neuroma is caused by any compression or irritation of the nerve. Neglect of the foot, ill-fitting shoes, and simple wear and tear are a few of the main problems. Your feet can indicate if your body is under threat from a serious disease.
